A little bit about us:

Our organization, formerly known as the Windham Theraputic Riding Center Inc., was founded in the year 2000. We began providing riding instruction to individuals with special needs at the Royal Oaks Peruvian Horse Farm located on Old Road in Windham, NY. We are currently in the process of completing construction of our new center on Mail Route Road in Ashland, NY.
Our new facility consists of a 6 stall horse barn, run in sheds, 60 x 120 outdoor riding area, a waiting area for families and participants and lots of pasture.

Our Mission:

It is the mission of the CGTRC, Inc. to provide safe, organized and effective theraputic horseback riding instruction as an alternative form of therapy to individuals with special needs. To achieve this we combine healing with horses, utilizing the assistance of qualified volunteers and caring individuals that share a combined love of horses and people.

Who can??

Our program offers riding instruction to individuals with a wide range of disabilities. These include... but are not limited to: muscular distrophy, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord/traumatic brain injuries, down syndrome, stroke patients, ADD/ADHD, emotional problems, amputees and the hearing/sight impaired.

The Benefits:

Theraputic horseback riding has many benefits to offer it's participants. For persons with physical disablities, riding can be used to stimulate the nervous and muscular systems, thus, improving balance, coordination, muscle tone and strength.
Psychologically, riding can be an esteem building experience increasing self confidence and self worth.

Scheduling:

We will be offering a flexible schedule to accommodate today's busy lifestyle - so lessons are provided weekends, evenings and some weekdays. At the present time we are only equipped to provide lessons in one of our many fenced-in outdoor riding areas, which limits us to operation dependant upon the weather.

How to Get Involved:

Just give us a call to set up an appointment. During your first visit we will fill out the neccesary paperwork and you will be fitted with the proper equipment. Each participant will be suited to their individual needs and goals.

CGTRC Offers:

- A unique alternative form of therapy
- A fun and recreational activity
- An opportunity to participate in an activity that is not readily
available to individuals with special needs
- An opportunity to socialize with other individuals with special needs.

    * If you are currently under a doctor's care or have a physical
therapist, we do require a release form or a prescription to
       participate.
